Gas flux is a highly active compound that is not added to the molten solder under gas phase conditions, but rather in the molten solder itself. During the welding process, these compounds form solder particles and create molten droplets of solder through the transport of gas or liquid. In the process of droplet coalescence, a strong gas flow generated by the gas or flux promotes the coalescence of droplets into a liquid form of flux. Due to the presence of a large amount of oxygen in the gas flux, this oxygen can undergo redox reactions with the compounds in the flux, leading to the decomposition of compounds in the solder particles. Due to its oxidizing nature, the oxygen content in the flux particles is high.
